The Can Do's Of KALE

The New Veggie Of The Month is the kale. The kale contains, but not limited to, Vitamin K (stores calcium for bone health), good source of potassium and Vitamin A ( maintain eyesight health). YOU should take inventory of your unique dietary needs to enhance your healthy methods of maintaining that enjoyable life of yours. Small additions can help to subtract the bigger worries.
*******************

Brazed Kale and Salmon:
I preheat the boil and pour in a little olive oil with garlic. I place chopped kale in the pot and stirred. Then pour in a can of vegetable stock and I let it simmer. At this time I had always seasoned the 2 salmon steaks for a light pan fried in olive oil. And served when done.

JUICE:

I juiced kale, apple, pear and tangerine and it was delicious

...is right on time for newness rejuvenation needs. It created a soothing effect and protection for my lips. It's no wonder that the wheat germ oil and aloe leaf extract (along with other ingredients) play well together
. It's slight tingle complimented it's scent and I loved it thoroughly. Do your smile a favor and show gratitude to those precious puckers of yours. If you try, lets us know about it!

MELODY EHSANI (California)

1. If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be? Do you meditate, pray or/and take time to mentally relax? If so, what part of the day? For how long?

Hmm, for some reason the first song that came to mind was "Golden" by Jill Scott. I meditate and pray, I do it every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to sleep. Sometimes it will be for 30 minutes or longer and sometimes it will be 3-5 minutes, just to check in with myself and with God.

2. Tell us about the EHSANI Corporation.

The Ehsani corporation is my life's work. Its basically the vehicle I use to show service to God, myself and the world. I feel like Im gifted with the concept of products, so I design them and try to show up as authentically as possible every day in who I am and what I do. Ive been designing footwear and accessories, and intend on expanding into different areas.

3. What product(s) are you most proud of?
I think Im most proud of my shoes, only because they were the hardest for me to get done. They made me aware of my potential and gave me a sense of fearlessness that has helped me in other areas of my craft.

4.What early part of your life's journey prompted you to go into the business of Custom Design?

I grew up in a setting where hip hop was very prevalant to my growth and development. When I was young, everything was about custom design. I looked up to people like Slick Rick and Big Daddy Kane, and respected artists like Dapper Dan who were behind the scenes custom making Gucci jackets and knuckle rings. Everything was about self expression, and whoever was most innovative was most prized. I feel like this new pop era of culture has lost that sense of personal expression, so I felt the need to attempt at bringing it back.

5. With some of your successful experiences (such as creating custom statement rings for Rihanna and Erykah Badu, styling Ciara's newest album cover shoot, as well as donating a percentage of Ehsani designer shoes profit to the education and advancement of others) allowing you to connect with people around the globe, what are some of your day to day activities?

I've realized that even when you have help, if you have your own company, the only person that holds the vision is you....so my daily consists of doing EVERYTHING.. from designing (sketching), souring materials, working conceptually with a lot of music artists (some of which you mentioned above) for upcoming music videos, going to the post office and shipping out orders, answering emails..I mean really anything you can think of.

6. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

I really enjoy going to the movies, or the bookstore and just hanging out....ive been more lowkey lately, which has been nice. I really want a new fun gadget in my life, thats about it lol.

7. One thing on my Life List is to write a book.

8. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?

God.

9. What are 2 qualities that you prefer and respect about your mate at this point in your life?

Honesty and humility

10. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice early on and what was it?

One of my mentors Julie Walker, she encouraged me to be myself, unapologetically...and the world would come to me. She couldnt have been more right.

11. What piece of business advice would you like to share?

Never do something you dont LOVE and always ask for assistance, you are never without resources, nothing is impossible.

12. What is NEXT for you in 2009?

So much! I intend on continuing my growth and branching out into sneakers and other types of jewelry..and hopefully some collaborations with some of my clients/ friends.

13. The Food Network, The Hallmark Channel, BET OR The Discovery/Planet Green Channel?

Discovery/Planet Green Channel! Hands down.

High Heel, Low Heel OR No Heel? HIGH HEEL!

Chocolate, Butter Pecan OR Strawberry? CHOCOLATE!!!!

14. What word would best describes you right now? FEARLESS!

GRETHEL CROFT (FLORIDA)

1. If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be?

I'm sure this might sound like a cliché but music is life to me. There isn't one song that reflects one vibe. I love Salsa, R&B, Reggae; I love Kenny G, that Italian guy…..Pavarotti…I love anything with a message. It depends on the lyrics…its all about the lyrics … the mood or chapter I am in my life at that point. Right now I would say India Irie "Private Party" because this song talks about a woman who knows who she is, a woman who has found herself …something that all women aspire to do… a woman who has accepted who she is flaws and all, accepted her position in this world she has been appointed…sometimes even the closest people to us don't get it…she does…This song is truly about the emancipation of a woman's mind, body and soul.
Do you meditate, pray or/and take time to mentally relax? Yes I do all of the above…I can say that I take time to pray, meditate, all of the above but the one thing I do the most is relax mentally and I normally do that right before I go to bed…..I light my candles every night and for about an hour or two relax to instrumental selections from my library.

2. Tell us about the LADY SOUL VINTAGE Tee Shirt line.

Lady Soul is my idea of who I am….it means to me…a woman's soul coming to life through her art…. Rooted on the motto, "The ART OF SIMPLICITY IS SIMPLY ITS COMPLEXITY," the sultry (Soul-Tree) vintage tee line is a complex piece of art on a simple canvas for all to showcase because I believe art is fashion….just as fashion is art…

3. What inspires your designs and logos?

To me it's simple, how many shades does a woman wear? You could even ask that…MANY! Design inspirations, for me, come from everywhere…nature, color, music, textures, scents, feelings…and the end result is my interpretation of who I am as all art is an expression of the artist's experiences….
''ART'' THE PRODUCT OF HUMAN CREATIVITY; THE CREATION OF BEAUTIFUL OR SIGNIFICANT THINGS; AN IMAGINATION THOUGHT OR FEELING BROUGHT TO LIFE IN SOME FORM IN WHICH IT CAN BE SEEN HEARD OR FELT. ART IS LIFE....

5. With some of your successful experiences allowing you to connect with people around the globe (such as being the Event Coordinator for Marriott accounts, playing the guitar and photography), what are some of your day to day activities?

Although I am a busy woman and have a hectic schedule, my priority continues to be my family and my day to day activities consists of taking care of them, our home, and enjoying each moment with them. Everything else is second.

6. What do you do for fun?

With or without the kids? (Laughing) On family days we do just about everything and anything that is challenging sports, games and any new adventures. On the days without the kids, I enjoy going out with my fiancé to art galleries, dancing, and doing new things…One of my favorite hobbies is traveling so we do as much traveling possible. One thing I have always wanted to do but never had the opportunity to try was to swim with the dolphins!!

7. One thing on my Life List is
to accomplish the highest level of knowledge in my art form(s) so to someday teach it to passionate individuals as myself. Forever growing.

8. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?

In this ever changing world, I thank God for blessing me with an amazing mother, Maria Croft, and my best friend and Fiancé, Scott Guilbert. These 2 people are Gods fallen angels. I am truly blessed and feel honored to have you in my life.

9. What are 2 qualities that you prefer and respect about your mate at this point in your life?

If I may let me quote my girl India Irie and I know all the ladies know this song…. (The Truth) I love the way he speaks I love the way he thinks I love the way he treats his mama I love that gap in between his teeth I love him in every way that a woman can love a man from personal to universal but most of all its unconditional. Although I'm an artist of many talents my number one Passion is loving the people around me and I am never afraid or shy to express that love. To Love Is To Live.

10. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice early on and what was it?

The best advice I ever received came from my older brother Fidel who before he passed taught me the serenity prayer and its true value...… GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE, TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. When I was 10 years old Fidel taught me that this prayer is a powerful weapon and that God answers ever time; something I can now understand. R.I.P Fidel

11. What piece of business advice would you like to share?

Always remember to keep God first. No business or success is worth losing your Soul or love ones over. Make sure to always do the things you are passionate about, this way you will never lose.

12. What is NEXT for you in 2009?

In March 2009, I have been invited to showcase & launch the Vintage Tee Line at the CIU International Fashion Show. This is an event that is focused on the talents of Caribbean Designers throughout the world.

13. The Food Network, The Hallmark Channel, BET OR The Discovery/Planet Green Channel?

I don't watch much television but of the list I'd watch Discovery and the Food Network.
High Heel, Low Heel OR No Heel? I can't say that I can choose One….When my Fiancé takes me out to dinner I wear his favorite high heels, when I go dancing I choose to wear low heels and when I'm working out, taking a stroll at the beach or just doing my day, day activities I choose comfort so I wear flats.
Good Book, Good Food OR Good Sleep?
Good Book

14. What word would best describe you right now? BLESSED

BE MY GUEST: JANUARY 2009 ENTRY

*****Deirdre's Wedding Words Of The Month****

I am ready and happy. Happy New Year to all! I've been reading my scriptures and taking care of all the final touches for the wedding. Here are my words of the month.
VISION- My fiance and I have a vision for our day but more importantly a vision for our life.
Proverbs 29: 18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
WISDOM- Seek wisdom in our finances, spirutality and all that we do.
Psalm 37:30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
Psalm 3:13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding,

Our Christmas Eve was in church. There was a jazz ensemble that performed, lots of dance from the men's ministry, the women and the youth (phenomenal by the way!) The pastor preached and then KELLY PRICE brought the house down. Christmas day was AWESOME! I woke up to holiday lights and candles in the living room. My gift to him for Christmas-a night out at Alvin Ailey and then did dinner with his family in Newark, NJ.

My wedding day is 23 days ahead. Jerry and I started "dating" (first kiss) on January 24, 2007 so he choose this date for our nuptials..
Snow or shine it will all be fine:)

Hi Mommies.
My mother will be here the Wednesday before. I love her so much. She really keep me going. Jerry's mom lives here and is such a treasure. My mom actually called yesterday to see how the final dress fitting went and that was nice...

Shout to the Groomsmen.
And their stories. LOL! Actually only one of the groomsmen is married and he has given advice on the planning process. He discussed what he and his new bride went through. We're surrounded by prayful men and women-- loving, funny, kind and we thank them for it!!

On the dress and the cake..,Feathers ,baby! FEATHERS! 175 people are coming together for us. What a blessing. When I look in Jerry's eyes I see STRENGTH. I love his strength, faith in God, spirituality and darn it -the man is sexy!!!

Today was an awesome wedding finalization day!!! I had a dress fitting and YEAH!!! they have to take it in some! We got the application for our marriage license filled out and gave the DJ some of our favorite songs.

Be at peace Newlyweds. Pray. Expect the blessings to flow, expect that you will need to do more and be more, expect to bless others. I recognize that we are not the same person and communication is key. Planning a wedding is a lot of work and fun. I choose to be happy, loving and at peace.

I'm so excited! Congratulations to those of you going on any new journey this year! Thank you for letting me share this part of mines with you at FYF. I love you Jerry.

-Deirdre

*****WORDS FROM THE GROOM****

Well here we go....
TO say that this is surreal, would be an understatement. There truly is life after Divorce. That's right folks, I cussed. Many times when this happens it would seem like the best thing to do is just stay by yourself and live the single, single, single.. life. But love found me. I am grateful. This planning experience has been wonderful. Usually the guys just show up for the wedding, because "it's not their day" as it is so often stated. Brothers, if you love this woman that you say you want to marry, then you had better speak up and make this wedding as much yours as it is hers. It's true that much of the focus will be on her, but you have to do your part in playing a key role in how this stuff gets planned and executed, and not just be a checkbook or a "HONEYDO". I almost think that I might enjoy this day more than she will, because God gave me a second chance at Love and I don't intend to let it go to waste.

Fellas-Love God, Love yourself, Love that Woman. If you don't Love You, you won't be able to Love someone else while they Love you. I truly love you Deirdre.

-Jerry
